Thunder, Pearl, and Opal Story
This story is really within and about these stones, all with water in the spotlight. The unusual, gray looking stone in the middle is a rare marvel. It was pulled out of the ground in the Virgin Valley and is an anomaly for the location. Instead of Opal creating limb casts or permineralizing Petrified Wood, it filled thousands of bubbles in its ‘mother stone’ of varying sizes. This hand sculpted piece contains a myriad of tiny glassy windows of crystal common opal. Perched high, a blue-black Agate from a Thunder Egg and a large ‘button’ Pearl hung adjacent to the opal/matrix start to tell the story of the elements and time creating these precious water born gifts.
The Virgin Valley, Nevada Opal is from our recent mining expedition. When I showed the owners of the mine this stone, they said it was very rare but they had recently seen a few like specimens emerging. The 25mm x 8mm Opal/Matrix piece is hand polished in a free-form ‘carved’ cabochon. Second in the array of photos is the ‘mother stone’ in the background of the piece showing off a black Precious Opal within. Stay tuned to see more from this stone. The 5mm blue-black Agate is from a Thunder Egg originating in the Blue Bed at Richardson’s Ranch in Central Oregon. The 11mm x 9mm button pearl is from old stock purchased about 25-30 years ago at the Tucson Gem Show.
The hand fabricated ensemble is set in Fine Silver with Sterling Silver bail loops and hook and loop closure. The pendant is hung on Greek leather, 3.5mm, 18”ish cord so that it’s ready to wear and I always imagine that if folks have a specific kind of chain they like, one would be welcome to transfer it to a chain from your own collection as well.
Each piece is a one of a kind piece of art, because no two stones are the same and the settings are created by hand, no two pieces are the same (even the earrings). It should be mentioned that all stones are used in their natural state; never dyed or heated to change their appearance. All the metals used are either recycled or fair, humane trade verified and all components used in the jewelry will return to the earth leaving no footprint. Thank you for enjoying the art.

We use priority USPS and they’ve been speedy in delivery time ahead of the holidays (usually 1 to 4 business days travel time depending on where you are).
