Moss Agate and Marcasite Plume Earrings
These gems are windows into what magic grows inside stones. The Marcasite Plume Agates are carved and hung without the fettering of precious metal setting. This is so the minerals creating threads and multi-colored islands of excitement can be fully viewed and admired. The Marcasite appears both red and dark metallic with a glittery finish within the clear- light blue tinted Agate. Deep olive colored Moss Agates embellish the scene with their own amazing growth.
We found this Marcasite Plume Agate in Eastern Oregon and each stone is about 20mm and unique. The Marcasite is a metallic mineral that ‘grows’ and the Agate envelopes it. In areas where the Marcasite collects, the island areas, they cast a tiny sparkle in the direct sun. They were hand carved and fabricated from scratch by Karen Britt and are hung without setting so stones can glow with all available light. The Moss Agates are 5mm, hand polished, and are from Central Oregon.
Top to bottom, the earring is about 35mm or around 1 1/3”. The body is entirely Fine Silver and the earring loops and posts are Sterling Silver. The posts come with ‘comfort back’, barrel style holders. Each earring weighs in around 2.3 grams which is fantastically light and comfortable for stone dangle earrings. Each piece is a one of a kind piece of art, because no two stones are the same and the settings are created by hand, no two pieces are the same (even the earrings). It should be mentioned that all stones are used in their natural state; never dyed or heated to change their appearance. All the metals used are either recycled or fair, humane trade verified and all components used in the jewelry will return to the earth leaving no footprint. Thank you for enjoying the art.
