Opals and Blended Metals

Opals are mesmerizing and one of the only stones that I use that are not from Oregon. This combination of Boulder Opal and Crystal Opal from Australia is brilliant on the green hues, glowing with the blue/turquoise, flashing with pinks and reds, and grounded with Rhyolite matrix (on the boulder). To emulate the complex colors, Silver, Copper, and Jeweler's Brass were hammered and heated until a blended metal background was produced.

The Crystal Opal (top stone) is 5mm of dancing green glow set in Fine Silver. The bottom stone is Boulder Opal, both from Australia, with a signature uneven terrain and brilliant flash. The settings land on a blended mixed metal base created from Sterling Silver, Copper, and Jeweler's Brass shined to mirror finish. As these metals patina from wear, the contrast and interplay of color will be amplified for the whole piece. Sterling Silver prongs, hoop, and bale dangle this mineral and metal painting from a 3mm black Greek Leather cord (approx 17") with Sterling Silver clasp.
